Western Elementary School Library
Our school library program strives to instill a love of reading, inspire life-long learning, and foster independent inquiry skills. Students visit our library once a week as a class to check out books, learn and practice information literacy skills and digital citizenship. During those classes and at other times during the day, children explore the world of ideas through literature and media. They are encouraged to read for enjoyment in a wide variety of literary genres. The library is an inviting space where students may acquire knowledge and gain insight. Our hope is that students will open books and open their minds for a better tomorrow.

Nutmeg Books
What is a Nutmeg Nominated Book?
A committee of librarians, teachers and students meet on a regular basis to read and decide on their favorite ten books to be nominated for the Connecticut Nutmeg Book Award.
Students who read at least two Nutmeg nominated books can vote for their favorite in May of that school year.
